Puppeteering

 

Very early in his career, Jami worked and trained in various forms of puppetry with The Edinburgh Puppet Company and the Blue Raincoat Theatre Company in Ireland where he learned complimentary techniques from the Marceau and LeCoq schools of mime and movement.

 

After his training at the National Institute of Circus Arts in London, U.K., (formerly The Circus Space) he was involved in the large scale outdoor touring show Spirit of the Rhino Drum featuring stunning Elephants, Giraffes, Crocodiles, Baboons, Gazelles, Birds of Paradise and of course, Rhino.  Under the tutelage of show creator William Todd-Jones he progressed from being a lead performer to movement director. learning many different styles of puppetry and animalistic animation involving limb extensions, masks, stilts, multi-operator creatures and more.  

 

Jami has often collaborated with the celebrated London-based company EMERGENCY EXIT ARTS to create wonderful larger than life characters for outdoor performances and parades.

 

In the world of Opera, Jami has performed and choreographed puppetry in various productions including Alceste (Scottish Opera) L'Amour de Loin ( ENOHansel and Gretel ( Garsington Opera)  and most recently for Isabeau at Opera Holland Park working with renowned designer Takis to animate a stunning Horse and Falcon central to the story of Isabeau, a re-telling of the Lady Godiva fable.
